In the case of text messaging, their mobile carrier routes their text message to poll everywheres web servers where the response is counted. Once counted, the response is displayed in real time on-screen. The format of your response is determined by the type of poll. More detailed information can be found in their User Guide. You can also respond via the poll's web page on PollEverywhere.com.
Web-based polls should be used as a practical alternative to clickers. The main use scenario for web-based polls is to use them for in-class quizzes and with the pedagogical objective of making students aware of conceptual conflicts between different conceptions of a topic. Brief quiz sessions in class provides an opportunity for discussions and immediate feedback on difficult parts of a lecture, and anonymous voting will furthermore motivate students to test their conceptions and take active part in the lecture.
